Tracking
Serial numbers can be allocated when a sales order is entered, or they can be issued upon shipment without allocating them in advance. Issues can also be entered during invoicing or through file maintenance after the sale is completely entered.

Item Setup
Only items that are designated as serialized items will be tracked. To indicate that an item is serialized, select it from item maintenance and change the block that says "Serialized (Y/N). Items with a quantity on hand cannot be changed to serialized items. Once items have been designated as serialized items, the designation cannot be changed.

Sequential Numbers
Serialized items can also be set up as sequential. In the case where multiple items are normally received and the serial numbers are in order, it makes sense to set them up as sequential When receiving a sequential serialized item it is only necessary to indicate the first number and the quantity. The individual records will be numbered sequentially, automatically. Once an item has been setup, the transactions will prompt for serial number entry as needed. Items that are not serialized will not be affected by this enhancement.
